Marfat is a registered non-profit voluntary association founded in 2004 by a group of professionals from various sectors – like academia, social science, Media and communication – to promote a multidisciplinary platform for development actors who would bring in global experience to micro situations and amplify the voice of marginalized people.
Our mission is to facilitate integrated development for sustainability in health, hygiene, nutrition, environment, education and livelihood for the vulnerable rural and urban population, to promote human rights and gender equity in all aspects of developmental activities and initiatives and to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Marfat works in one of the most backward districts Murshidabad with the bidi rolling community providing support to primary and early childhood education, health, child protection and literacy and livelihood of young bidi rolling girls. Working for over a decade with underprivileged children and young people on issues related to violation of their rights in Murshidabad, Marfat focuses on getting these children and youth a comprehensive support in forwarding their career with informed choices with an integrated support of education, life and vocational skills to realize their rights and entitlements.
Marfat’s programs are designed towards ending poverty (SDG1), ending hunger and food security (SDG2), ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages (SDG3), ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all (SDG4) and achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls (SDG5).
