Marfat is a registered NGO working for over 15 years with underprivileged children in West Bengal. Marfat’s mission is to facilitate integrated development for sustainability in health, hygiene, nutrition, education, environment and livelihood for the vulnerable rural and urban population, and to promote human rights and gender equity in all aspects of developmental activities and initiatives.

To realize the above Marfat have programs designed to create an impact on the following SDGs i.e. SDG1 – End Poverty, SDG2 – End Hunger and food security, SDG3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages SDG4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, SDG5 – Achieve gender equality and empower women and Girls.

Marfat works directly in one of the most backward districts Murshidabad with the bidi rolling community providing support to primary and early childhood education, child protection, and literacy and livelihood of your bidi rolling girls.

Over the last 10 years Marfat has provided education and extracurricular support to over 2000 children aged 6 – 14 years. Recently, in 2017-18 Marfat has helped 650 dropout, irregular and laggard children (7-10 years) back to school in Dhuliyan, by organising community learning centres and advocating with the community and around 34 Government Primary Schools, SSK and Madrassah. Out of the 13 community learning centres 10 where situated in Primary Schools.

Marfat works very closely with the Education Department, Panchayat, Social Welfare department for ICDS for preschool education, nutrition and shelter for distressed children. Marfat also works as a resource organisation and provides training and orientation to local ICDS workers from time to time on ECCE and Growth Monitoring. Marfat has supported setting up ICDS centres (including AWW Orientation) in Dhuliyan Municipality, due to lack of space in AWCs Marfat provides support through Creches to distribute ICDS Supplementary Nutrition Food in some parts of Dhuliyan. Since 2016 Marfat oriented about 80 AWW on ECCE implementation. Recently Marfat has initiated Kishori Shakti Yojana (KSY) training programmes for AWW in Jangipur Subdivision, have already completed 1 Round and cover over 900 Adolescent Girls through life skill training, 150 Adolescent girls through vocational training and 150 AWW for implementing and monitoring KSY.

Marfat has received support from and worked in collaboration with CRY, NABARD, DCPU, ICDS, Rotary and Childline. Marfat’s significant presence in Murshidabad continues to receive recognition and praise from District Administration and State bodies like SCPCR. Marfat was recently recognized by SCPCR for its outstanding commitment to children.
